Is Semaglutide The Same As Ozempic?

Semaglutide has become a very popular treatment for individuals looking to handle weight loss. Although you might know Semaglutide by other names. Semaglutide is a generic name for Ozempic. It is a treatment that initially used to treat patients with Type-2 diabetes by helping them manage insulin. However, Semaglutide use has expanded to helping patients manage their weight loss goals. What Is Semaglutide/Ozempic

Semaglutide is part of a group of medications that are categorized as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists. What this means is that Semaglutide mimics a hormone in the body called GLP-1 that is usually released when we eat. GLP-1 as a hormone is responsible for a few different processes when we eat. Production of this hormone triggers the body to produce insulin to help breakdown the sugars in the food we eat. The hormone also starts the process that leads to the brain sending a signal to stop eating. Finally, this hormone plays a role in how we metabolize food by jumpstarting the metabolic process. Altogether GLP-1 helps us decrease how much we eat by making us feel full while also helping our bodies get the most out of the food we eat by helping our metabolisms.

How Does Semaglutide Help With Weight Loss?

Semaglutide injections mimic the GLP-1 hormone in our bodies. People who receive these injections feel fuller longer and feel more energized. Because of this, Semaglutide helps people who are actively dieting and/or increasing their exercise regimen. While Semaglutide is not a replacement for a diet and exercise, it is a great complement to them. If you have ever noticed that a diet/exercise plan was more effective when you were younger or when you tried it the first time, it is likely because your body is not metabolizing food as effectively as it used to. Whenever we improve our lifestyles, it takes our bodies time to react. Semaglutide helps people get the most out of their lifestyle changes by making it easier to maintain their diet and exercise while also improving the results. In a double-blind study, two groups of patients updated their lifestyle while only one group received Semaglutide injections. The group that didn’t receive injections lost about 2.4% of their body fat over a period of two months. The group that had Semaglutide lost an average of 14.9% of their bodyfat.

How Is Semaglutide Administered?

Semaglutide is administered as routine injections, it can either be handled at home by a patient or in-office. In order to use Semaglutide you do need to see a medical provider first to have labwork done to make sure you are a good candidate for the treatment. If you are a candidate you can choose whether you would like to handle the injectables yourself or have them done in-office.
